Privacy Policy Statement for the Utah State Tax Commission

Purpose

The Utah State Tax Commission (USTC) is committed to protecting the privacy of those accessing its websites and applications. The purpose of this policy is to inform those accessing USTC websites about the collection and use of the personally identifiable information of its users.

This website and others identified in this statement are operated by the Utah State Tax Commission, an agency of the government of the State of Utah.

Scope

This privacy policy statement applies to the USTC for its websites and may provide additional detail to, but not conflict with, the privacy policy found at utah.gov, except as required by an applicable State law, Federal law, or Federal regulation.

Applicable Federal statutes and rules, including the “Driver Privacy Protection Act” (DPPA), and the privacy and disclosure rules of the Internal Revenue Service, also govern the use of information gathered by the USTC.

Collection and Use of information by USTC

The USTC may collect the following personally identifiable information for the determination of account status (including refund amounts due to you), taxes and fees due, filing requirements, the filing of tax returns or other documents, issuance of licenses and registrations, renewal of vehicle registrations, for surveys/feedback, and for online live help:

  • Name
  • Account Number
  • Physical Address
  • Email Address
  • Telephone Number
  • Social Security Number
  • Credit Card Information
  • Bank Account Information
  • Personal Identification Number (PIN)

Security Measures

The state and this agency utilize a variety of methods for keeping personally identifiable information/data secure, including reducing the risk of unauthorized release or tampering. These methods include the use of SSL 128-bit encryption and other encryption methods, firewalls, border routers, DMZ services, intrusion detection, virus scanning detection and removal, and other technologies and methodologies that protect data and systems.

Safeguarding Your Personally Identifiable Information

Your confidentiality is important to us. The Utah State Tax Commission will not disclose to others personal information about you gathered through the department website except as permitted under federal or state law, or Title 63, Chapter 2, Government Records Access and Management Act, or the statutes and rules which govern the activities of the Utah State Tax Commission.

TC-69 Form Usually Requires Additional Schedules

When submitting a TC-69 paper form, you MUST also include the appropriate schedule(s). If you do not include the correct schedule(s), your business registration will be delayed.

Note: To save time and ensure all needed schedules are included, you can apply for a tax account online.

Effective: June 1, 2024 – To improve efficiency, we have moved all Utah State Business and Tax Registrations (TC-69 and related schedules) online.

Sales tax filing is changing

All Utah sales and use tax returns and other sales-related tax returns must be filed electronically, beginning with returns due Nov. 2, 2020. File electronically using Taxpayer Access Point at tap.utah.gov.

This includes:

  • Third quarter, July-Sept 2020 (quarterly filers)
  • September 2020 (monthly filers)
  • Jan – Dec 2020 (annual filers)
  • All related schedules
